Supreme Court Stands Down Judgment On Imo Governorship Election

The Supreme Court has stood down judgment in the suit challenging the election of Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State.

The apex court took the decision on Tuesday while hearing the appeal filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the March 9 election, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume.

Senator Ararume filed the appeal to challenge Governor Ihedioha’s election after he lost at the Imo State Governorship Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, chaired a seven-man panel of justices that presided over the hearing of the appeal.

Meanwhile, Mr Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA) who had also filed an appeal against the governor’s election has withdrawn the suit before the court.

Mr Nwosu, represented by his lawyer, Mr Solomon Umoh, explained that he took the decision based on the judgment of the apex court delivered on December 20, 2019.

The Supreme Court had said that Nwosu was not a candidate in the March 9 poll.
