The Kaduna State Government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew it imposed across the state.
The curfew will be relaxed for two days beginning from Tuesday, April 7 to midnight on Wednesday, April 8.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, who made the announcement in a statement made available to Channels Television on Tuesday said the 24-hour curfew was relaxed to allow residents to stock up foodstuffs and essential commodities.
She added that only food and essential commodities would be sold on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when the curfew is relaxed.
“Sellers of other merchandise are not included in the exemption,” she added.
She also advised residents to shop only in markets within their neighbourhoods as going to far-flung commercial hubs is not allowed.
Traders and buyers were advised to observe social distancing at the markets, while Kawo market will remain closed because it does not have space for social distancing.
The deputy governor, however, expressed dissatisfaction that some people take the coronavirus disease for granted and consequently defied the lockdown order.
The state government had earlier on March 26 imposed the 24-hour curfew as part of measures to contain spread of COVID-19 in the state, which already has five confirmed cases of the disease.
