The Federal Government has disbursed the sum of 1.5 billion naira to 76,402 poor households in nine Local Government Areas of Jigawa state as COVID-19 relief fund.
The Jigawa State Governor Badaru Abubakar who participated in the distribution at one of the disbursement centres in the state, says there is a plan on ground to scale up the programme to other local councils in the state.
According to him, the gesture would bring some level of relief to the beneficiaries as business activities are stopped in the state to prevent the spread of the virus.

The governor also said they have facilitated the release of 74 inmates in a bid to decongest prison following the outbreak of the disease.
“We were able to identify some inmates who require a meager amount of fine to be released and some others with minor offenses and we have ordered the release of 74 of them and we will continue to do that in a bid to decongest the prisons.”
