Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has directed that indigenes returning from coronavirus affected states case or coming back from abroad must be screened at entry points by the health personnel manning the land borders.

The Commissioner of Information, Culture and Home Affairs, Abdulkareem Sirika disclosed this at the Government House in Katsina, the state capital on the activities of Sensitisation Committee on COVID-19.

Sirika revealed this during a visit to traditional rulers by the committee, he said they have been requested to report the presence of returnees from trips for proper scrutiny by health personnel.

Meanwhile, some returnees were immediately quarantined and samples were taken to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for testing to ascertain whether or not the returnees are positive for the COVID-19.

Sirika also reiterated the state government’s readiness to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Commissioner noted that before the confirmation of the deceased medical doctor as a case index of COVID-19, members of the committee have been enlightening people on ways to contain the spread of the virus.

He also announced that after Daura was lockdown, the committee visited the ancient city to monitor compliance by the people of the Emirate.

The state has so far sent a total of 71 suspected cases of COVID-19 to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control-NCDC for testing.
