Amid the rising cases of the COVID-19 virus, Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire has explained the reason why the testing centre in Kano State was shutdown.
Dr Ehanire noted that the closure was temporary and this decision was necessary after some medical workers in the centre tested positive for COVID-19.
He said this on Wednesday during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) daily briefing on COVID-19.

“As for the testing in Kano, there was a report that they had reduced the availability of the agents which was supplied to them.
“In addition to that, there was a temporary halt in activities because some of the workers in the laboratory got infected and the laboratory had to be shut down for decontamination. That was just temporary,” he said.
The Health Minister added that he is working with the Kano State Government to prevent a further spread of the virus.
He added that the centre has been supplied with more testing kits and protective gears to ease their operations.
“With regards to supplies, they have been replenished. They have the PPE and other agents now,” Dr Ehanire said.
From a singular case of the COVID-19 as at April 11 this year, Kano State is now the third most affected state in the country, after Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
According to the list released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, April 22, there are 873 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria and Kano has 73 cases.
