Nasarawa State appointees have agreed to donate 50 percent of their salaries for three months to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The decision which is to take effect from the month June was reached at an executive council meeting in Lafia, the state capital which held on Thursday.

This follows a 10 million naira donation by Governor Abdullahi Sule to the committee on COVID-19 chaired by the Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe.

Declaring the position of the council, the State Commissioner of Information Dogo Shammah, said “Appointees under this government have agreed to forfeit 50 percent of their salaries as part of their contribution to fighting COVID-19 in Nasarawa state.

“This is in line with the position of the Governor who has donated 10 million naira to fight this pandemic”.

He added by calling on workers and well-meaning individuals to follow suit so as to flatten the curve in the state.

“This very position is taken in good faith with the belief that workers of Nasarawa state too will key into this disposition by forfeiting part of their salaries so that together we can fight the pandemic that is ravaging the country.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to philanthropist, Individuals as well as good people that have the safety of the people at heart to contribute their own quota”

Mr. Shammah’s appeal is coming after several donations have been made by various groups and individuals within and outside the state.
