A total of 160 Nigerians on Sunday returned to the country from the United States.

The returnees were among hundreds of other Nigerians stranded in the US and willing to be evacuated following the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

They comprise 92 males, 60 females, and eight infants.

Their plane touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 11am, hours after departing the Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

Following their return, the evacuees were transported to the isolation centres in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in five buses and their international passports deposited with the Nigeria Immigration Service.
