The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of food items to households at the Kuje Area Council in Abuja.
The food items were donated on Thursday during the flag-off of the Homegrown School Feeding Programme.
The Federal Government is using this measure to reassure Nigerians that it remains committed to cushioning the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Speaking at the official flag-off, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq said that the Federal Government is addressing the issue of hunger which is a serious by-product of the pandemic.
She noted that the government will continue to fund the homegrown school feeding programme as it targets to feed 3.1m school children.
