A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed June 22 for the trial of Mr Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume, and six others accused of terrorism, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms.
Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako fixed the date on Monday after the seven defendants pleaded not guilty to an amended twelve-count bordering on kidnap for ransom, terrorism and escaping from lawful custody.
At the resumed trial of the defendants, the prosecuting counsel, Shuaibu Labaran informed the court that the Federal Government has decided to amend the charges against them.
He explained that this was to ensure the commencement of the trial while the charges against 13 other defendants were being sorted out.
The Federal Government had in an earlier charge filed before the court, listed Bala, a former Army Captain Ahmed Balarabe, and 18 others as defendants in the case.
This followed an incident that led to the death of three policemen and two civilians in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State between August and September 2019.
