UPDATED: Ondo Assembly Serves Impeachment Notice To Deputy Governor

The Ondo State House of Assembly has served a notice of impeachment to the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

The motion for the impeachment of the Deputy Governor was read on the floor of the Assembly on Tuesday by the clerk, Bode Adeyelu, on the grounds of alleged gross misconduct.

14 of the 26 members of the Assembly signed the notice while nine voted against the decision.

The Assembly Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oloyelogun, thereafter, explained that the Constitution empowers the Assembly to investigate the allegation and proceed on impeachment if necessary and when necessary constitutional requirements were met.

While the nine lawmakers that pulled out of the impeachment process insisted that the action is illegal, the embattled Deputy Governor has now filed a suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja, asking it to stop the state House of Assembly from impeaching him.

Listed as defendants in the suit were; the House Of Assembly, the Inspector General of Police, the state Commissioner of Police, the Department of State Services and the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr David Oloyeloogun.

In the suit, the Deputy Governor is asking for an order of perpetual injunction to stop the impeachment process and for the respondents to stay action.
