The federal government says it has received a three-year grant amounting to $890m from the Global Fund to help fight HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and tuberculosis starting from 2021.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, confirmed the receipt of the grant at a press briefing on Tuesday.

He also added that the Fund has approved $28.1m to support the country’s COVID-19 response.

According to Ehanire, the grants demonstrate the international community’s confidence in the federal government’s healthcare policies.

The Global Fund is an international health financing mechanism established by the United Nations in 2002.

Nigeria has contributed a total of $28.62m since its inception.
