The Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Bako Kasim has resigned from his position.

Speaker of the State Assembly, Abdullahi Wuse broke the news to lawmakers through a letter written by the former Deputy at plenary on Thursday.

The former Deputy Speaker who represents Bida South said in the letter that his resignation was a matter of personal interest.

But, Channels Television gathered that Kasim’s resignation was not unconnected to corruption allegations against some members and the leadership of the Assembly who was accused of collecting money from the State Executive to subvert the investigation into the spending of COVID-19 funds.

The Assembly has nominated Ndagi Baba as the new Deputy Speaker.

Ndagi Baba represents Lavun constituency.
