Insurgency: NDA Cadets Complete 3-Week Special Combatant Training

In an effort to curb the menace of activities of Boko Haram insurgency and banditry in the country, final year Army Cadets of 67 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy( NDA) have concluded a three-week practical special warfare training tagged ‘Exercise Camp Highland’.

The final battle inoculation exercise, which involves the firing of live ammunition of various weapons at Combat Team Level on selected targets, is designed to expose the officer cadets to the real battle situations.

Speaking at the closing of the three weeks training at Kachia in Kaduna State, the former Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt General Martin-Luther Agwai, tasked the cadets to be patriotic and courageous, as they will soon be joining their colleagues in the field to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria have been at the forefront in the fight against threats to the country’s corporate existence and in the West African sub-region.

And in a couple of weeks to come, the Nigerian Defence Academy will boost the manpower of the armed forces by churning out a new set of officers who will be deployed to the theatre of war

According to the Director of Military Training, Brigadier General Jimmy Akpor, the exercise ‘Camp highland’ is the final field exercise for final year army cadets of 67 Regular Course and Short Service Course 46, and is designed to examine their understanding of operational, administrative and logistic concepts they were taught in the academy.

The highpoint of the Camp Highland is the final battle inoculation exercise, which involves the firing of live ammunition of various weapons at Combat Team Level on selected targets.

It is designed to expose the officer cadets to real battle situations.

After assessing the performance of the cadets, the former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt General Martin-Luther Agwai expressed satisfaction, stating that he was confident that they are good to go and suitable for commissioning into the armed forces as Combatant Officers.

However, he urged them to go forward with patriotic fervour and courage to discharge their constitutional roles to their fatherland.
