Don’t Return To APC After Edo Election, Fayose Advises Obaseki
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has advised Governor Godwin Obaseki to remain loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He gave the advice to the Edo State Governor via his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.
The former governor believes Governor Obaseki, who is seeking re-election, will win.
He, however, asked the governor to remember his agreement with the PDP and not return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he defected from.
Fayose stressed that while he was neither a fan of Governor Obaseki nor Mr Adams Oshiomhole, it was important for the governor not to betray the PDP for “flimsy excuses”.
That notwithstanding, I believe that Obaseki will win, but he should honour his agreement with the PDP by not returning to APC after assuming office for the second term for flimsy excuses.

Governor Obaseki has been in disagreement with his predecessor and former APC national chairman – Oshiomhole while both men have traded a series of blames and accusations.
Although they denied the rift sometimes last year, the dispute has deepened as the forthcoming election approaches.
Amid the crisis in the state chapter of the APC, the PDP governorship candidate in the 2016 governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, defected to the APC In November 2019.
This, among several other developments, led to the emergence of two factions of the party in Edo – one loyal to Obaseki and the other in support of Oshiomhole.
In the build-up to the election, Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu, and four others declared their interest to represent the APC in the poll.
The governor and two other aspirants were, however, disqualified by the party’s screening committee for the primary election – a decision that was upheld by the party’s national leadership.
This led to his defection from the APC to the PDP where he emerged as the party’s candidate in the election.
On the other hand, Ize-Iyamu who was cleared alongside two other aspirants by the screening committee, went on to win the APC’s ticket for the election.
He has also been endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and other APC leaders.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed September 19 to conduct the poll.
