Katsina Directs Primary, Secondary Schools To Resume

Katsina, usually referred to as Katsina State to distinguish it from the city of Katsina, is a state in North West zone of Nigeria.

The Katsina State Government has directed all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state to reopen from October 5th, 2020.

This is coming as the state on Tuesday recorded 859 confirmed cases of COVID 19, discharged 835 patients, and recorded 24 deaths with zero patients on admission.

This may not be unconnected with the successes recorded in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus cases in the state amidst government commitment to adjust the school reopening calendar of the 2019/2020 Academic Session.

Speaking in a press briefing held on Tuesday at the State Ministry of Education Katsina, the Commissioner of Education, Professor Badamasi Charanchi the second term for the approved adjusted school reopening calendar will begin from Monday 5th October 2020 and close on 23rd October 2020, that’s 3 weeks.

Meanwhile, 3rd term will according to Professor Charanchi commence from Monday 26th October 2020 and close on Friday 5th February 2021, that’s 15 weeks.

During the resumption period, all schools are expected to be operating on shifting except when students are few with students must always be encouraged to wear facemasks, maintain social distancing and other safety protocols.

On September Thursday, 17th 2020 the Katsina State Government directed tertiary institutions in the state not to reopen as it awaits complete guidelines from the relevant bodies.

The decision taken is in line with national and global protocols and part of measures to mitigate the negative effect and further spike of Coronavirus not only in the institutions but the state in general.

The Special Advisor to the state government on higher education, Dr. Bashir Ruwan_Godiya disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Channels Television.

He expressed the readiness of the state government to reopen tertiary institutions once it receives guidelines from the National University Commission (NUC) or the Federal Ministry of Education.
