European Union member countries have picked two women, Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and South Korea’s Trade Minister, Yoo Myung-Hee, as the race for the World Trade Organisation’s top job gets tighter.

The second phase of consultations which began on september 24 and end tomorrow October 6, with three other candidates still in the race for the WTO’s next leader.

At the consultations holding on Tuesday, other members of the WTO will be asked in confidential to pick their preferences to the facilitators, which will finally reduce the number of candidates from five to two.

The next Director-General of the intergovernmental trade organization is expected to be announced on November 7th.
