Ondo State Government on Monday evening raised the alarm over alleged plan by Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, to stage an attack on himself in the Owo hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The state government claimed that the planned attack was quickly abolished and the campaign to Owo cancelled after relevant agencies were informed.

The state Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo disclosed this at a briefing. He said Agboola (candidate of Zenith Labour Party) planned for it to be seen that the attack was carried out by supporters of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as he visited Owo as part of his campaign tour.

“He planned attack against himself at Owo. It failed because the government made the sinister. We find this curious and alarming. We are appealing to the security agencies to up their game as we get close to the election,” Ojogo said.

In its reaction, the ZLP refuted the accusation and raised concerns over the safety of its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi.

The Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Babatope Okeowo, who spoke for the party said the party had to discontinue its campaign rally following a security report of an imminent attack in Owo.

“The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has conducted a clinical campaign across seventeen local government areas in the state without any blemish.

“We, therefore, urge our teeming supporters in Owo Local Government Area to continue with the house to house campaign and mobilisation,” the party announced.

The party also alleged that the party’s women leader and some party supporters in Owo were attacked.
