Schools at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja are to commence academic activities on Monday, October 12.

Boarding students are expected to resume on Sunday, October 11 while academic activities will begin on Monday.

The FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Bello made the announcement while briefing journalists in Abuja, on Thursday.

He said that the guidelines for the reopening of the schools will soon be released and the academic calendar will cover the third term that was left due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He adds that the FCT did not record any case during the reopening of schools for exit classes and is optimistic that officials and pupils will ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols once the schools reopen.

The Federal Government last week ordered unity schools in the country,  earlier closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to reopen on October 12th, 2020.

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced the reopening of the learning centres and explained that the decision was reached after due consultations with stakeholders and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

The Minister explained that with the level of preparations put in place to test and the flattening of the infection curve, the government has come to the conclusion that it is now safe to allow the reopening of schools.
