The Enugu State Government has lifted the 24-hour curfew earlier imposed on Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas of the state.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, the adjustment was made following the hardship faced by residents of the areas as a result of the curfew.

“The 24-hour curfew imposed in Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas stands lifted with effect from 7 am on Sunday, 25th October 2020,” the statement partly read.

“In its place, a 13-hour curfew (6 pm to 7 am) daily, is imposed in Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas, with effect from 6 pm on Sunday, 25th October 2020 until further notice.”

While noting that security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure full compliance of the order, the commissioner said persons on essential duties were however exempted from the curfew.

For Aroh, healthcare workers, staff of Water Corporation, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Fire service, State Emergency Management Agency, among others would continue with their duties.

The state government had earlier restricted movements in the three local councils to curtail violence in the face of the #EndSARS protests.
