A man accused of creating and sharing a fake video of President Muhammadu Buhari marrying one of his female cabinet ministers has been released on bail.

The video claimed that President Buhari was marrying the Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq.

Kabiru Mohammed was charged on Tuesday before a Magistrate Court sitting in Namansland, Kano State.

The court heard that the fake video had tarnished the character of the people it depicted and had caused disaffection within their families.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had requested the court to deny Mohammed bail to allow it to conclude investigations and seek legal advice from the Ministry of Justice in Kano State.

However, the court granted him bail in the likesome of N1m, two sureties of which is a level 14 civil servant after his lawyer argued that the offence was bailable.

The next hearing is on February 5, 2021.
