A notorious bandit popularly called ‘Rufai Maikaji’ alongside a hundred of his gang members have been killed by troops during a gun battle in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

This follows painstaking checks with security agencies and careful exploitation of numerous human intelligence sources about the activities of the bandits.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, says Rufai Maikaji’ and dozens of his fighters were killed during air interdictions around the fringes of Malul Forest in Igabi LGA of Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

According to Aruwan, ‘Rufai Maikaji’ and his group were confirmed to be responsible for the killings, kidnapping, and cattle rustling in many communities in Giwa, Igabi and Chikun LGAs, especially in Iyatawa, Garke, Kumfa, Bakali, Karau-Karau and Galadimawa villages, as well as Anaba, Kerawa, Hashimawa, Sabon Birni, Buruku general area and parts of Chikun.

‘Rufai Maikaji’ is said to have started his operations as an errand boy to some deadly bandits around Sabon Birni General Area of Igabi LGA, he grew to become a household name in banditry.

With the killing of Rufai Maikaji, the Kaduna State Government and Security agencies have assured residents of the communities that suffered the brutality of notorious bandit that other accomplices who escaped the onslaught will be caught sooner than later.
