Nigerian Afropop stars Burna Boy and Wizkid made the country proud on Sunday night as they went home with their first-ever Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy, the self-acclaimed African Giant clinched the award for the ‘Best World Music” category with his ‘Twice As Tall’ album.

He competed with albums from Antibalas’ ‘The Fu Chronicles’, Bebel Gilberto’s ‘Agora’, Anoushka Shankar’s ‘Love Letters’ and Tinariwen’s ‘Amadjar’ to clinch the much-coveted prize.

Meanwhile, Wizkid picked up the prize for his collaboration with American Singer Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy for the track “Brown Skin Girl” in the ‘Best Music Video” category.
‘Brown Skin Girl’, a track off Beyonce’s ‘The Lion King: The Gift,‘ was nominated for the category alongside ‘Life Is Good’, a song by Future featuring Drake, ‘Lockdown’ by Anderson Park, ‘Adore You’ by Harry Styles, and ‘Goliath’ by Woodkid.

Burna Boy and Wizkid’s win comes years after Nigerian percussionist and recording artist, Sikiru Adepoju won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 1991.
Adepojuwas also part of Mickey Hart’s latest group Global Drum Project, whose title album won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the 51st annual Grammy Awards in 2009.
The 63rd GRAMMY Awards recognize recordings released between September 1, 2019, and August 31, 2020.
