The Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Friday met with commanders from the South East and South-South.

The meeting is to discuss the increased insecurity affecting the zones and the populace.

The police boss noted that the southeast/ south-south has become expedient and needs immediate attention.

The meeting is aimed at identifying the problems and profer solutions.

According to him, the challenges would require the force to rejig its operational strategies to ensure that the issues were resolved.

Baba stated, “It is not like we do not have problems in other geopolitical zones of the country, but we have to address them one after the other.”

Osinbajo decorates acting IGP

 

This is the IGP’s first meeting following his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6.

He replaced Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.

Until his appointment, Usman Alkali Baba was a Deputy Inspector-General, DIG of Police, and will be in acting capacity pending his confirmation by the Senate.

The newly appointed Acting Inspector General of Police born on the 1st of March 1963 and hails from Yobe State.

He bagged a Master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state in 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts from the Bayero Usman University, Kano in 1985.

As part of his policing vision, he aims to enhance police primacy in Nigeria through the provision of motivational and credible leadership, directed at stabilizing internal security and modernizing police operations, facilities and standards within the framework of citizens, consent, trust, and the rule of law.
