Peace has been restored in the Ondo community after gunshots were heard in the town over a chieftaincy title.

Security personnel including the police, mobile police as well as the Army were on Tuesday been deployed to Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo state.

The crisis which started on Monday, continued on Tuesday morning, escalating and leading to the use of dangerous weapons like guns.

Many residents, especially artisans and traders were terrified and forced to close down their businesses and desert the area.

The Spokesperson of Ondo State Police Command, DSP Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the incident to Channels Television via telephone.

He noted that the police, army, and other security agents have been deployed to the area to restore peace, adding that normalcy has since returned to the town.

Ikoro disclosed that there has not been any report of casualty recorded during the crisis.
