Security Operatives Repel Another Attack On Imo Police Headquarters
Security operatives have repelled an attack by gunmen on the state police command headquarters close to the government house in Owerri in the early hours of Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Bala Elkana says the gunmen tried to access the police headquarters through works layout around Alvan Ikoku Nursery and Primary School but were repelled.
Mr. Elkana explained that five of the hoodlums were killed and others injured during a gun duel with security operatives.
He added that the bus used by the gunmen has been recovered and four ak47 rifles stolen from the police during recent attacks on police stations were recovered.
This is the second time, the state police command headquarters is been attacked by these hoodlums who have continued to attack police stations in Imo State, setting some ablaze and killing officers.
On May 31st, operatives of the Imo State Police Command repelled attacks on two police stations in the state.
Authorities revealed that the affected facilities were located in Umundugba and Omuma areas of the state.
The gunmen are said to have stormed the station in three Sienna buses, one Avalon saloon car, and about eight motorcycles. They were engaged in a gun battle.
During the duel, the hoodlums threw some petrol bombs at the station, and they fell into the exhibit room.
The attackers were eventually suppressed and forced to retreat, having suffered a huge defeat and a number of casualties on their side.
Police spokesman Elkana said that the officers on duty were able to put off the fire with the help of some members of the community.
He added that some hoodlums made a similar attempt to attack Omuma Police Division, but the lethal affront was equally repelled by policemen on duty.
The command’s spokesman stressed that no life was lost in the two attacks and there was no casualty on the part of the police.
