Sound Sultan Buried In US As Nigerian Entertainers Mourn

Nigerian singer, Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan has been buried amid tears and tributes by the country’s entertainers.

Nigerian singer, Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan has been buried amid tears and tributes by the country’s entertainers. 

Sound Sultan, who died on Sunday, was also buried on the same day in New Jersey, US according to Islamic rites.

One of his colleagues, Yinka Lawanson better known as Lamboginny who lives in the US, hosted an Instagram live session showing the burial of the 44-year-old.

Family and friends of the late Jagbajantis crooner were present at the burial. They were all dressed in black attires. Singer Olamide was also present at the funeral of the late singer.

Tributes have continued to pour in from entertainers with many of them describing his demise as shocking and a huge loss to the nation.

“I am shocked and SAD at the passing of Sound Sultan ( HE IS FAMILY ) I pray our Creator gives his family strength at this time😞😞😞😞😞 RIP Sound Sultan,”  Afrobeat legend, Femi Kuti wrote on Instagram.

Innocent Idibia, aka 2baba, also shared a blank screen on his Instagram page with the caption, “NO.”

While expressing grief over Sound Sultan’s demise, Nollywood legend Richard Mofe-Damijo, admitted he is short of words to convey his feelings.

“Did you know when you wished me happy birthday three days earlier than usual that you won’t have the strength to do it a day later?” he posted. “Words would never be enough my brother.”

‘A Hard-Fought Battle’

A statement released by the family and signed by his sibling Kayode Fasasi, noted that the singer died from “a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.”

He is survived by a wife and three children.

Sound Sultan came into the spotlight in the early 2000’s when he released his first single ‘Jagbajantis’, which became an instant hit in Nigeria.

After independently releasing other singles and featuring in hit songs of other artists, he was signed by Kennis Music where he released four of his total seven albums.

He also produced and acted in the successful comedy movie ‘Head Gone’ in 2014 and in 2018, produced the stage musical ‘Jungle Story’.
