Bandits have attacked the village of the Zamfara State House of Assembly Speaker Nasiru Magarya, abducting his father.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen invaded the Magarya community in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state on Thursday and also kidnapped the lawmaker’s stepmother, and four other persons in the community.
The bandits were said to be on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically to scare people away to allow them to carry out their acts.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command Superintendent Shehu Mohammed also confirmed the incident, and noted that the command has deployed additional troops to the affected area to ensure the safe return of the victims.
The abductors are yet to contact the families of the kidnapped persons while the lawmaker has not commented on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
