Flash Flood Expected Across The Nation, NiMet Warns

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned of slim chances of flash floods across 34 states in the federation in the next three days.

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned of a high possibility of flash floods occurring across 34 states of the Federation over the next three days.

According to a communique on Wednesday by NiMet’s spokesperson, Muntari Yusuf Ibrahim, the agency explained that moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods from Tuesday, 24th to Thursday 26th of August, 2021.

It also placed the following states Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Kebbi, Niger, FCT, Plateau, Adamawa on a high priority list.

Taraba, Kwara, Oyo, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, as well as the coastal states of Rivers States  Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, were not left out.

Consequently, the agency advised that the slim chances of flash flood events on roads, settlements, farmlands, and bridges could be more pronounced.

As a result, the possibility of cars skidding off the road and car crashes is high.

NiMET also asked the public to take heed and avoid damages from rain-related hazards occasioned by the predicted flash flood.
