Police Officer Killed As Bandits Kidnap Zamfara Emir

A police officer has been killed as bandits kidnapped a Zamfara Emir and several others along the Kaduna- Abuja highway.


The spokesperson of the State Police Command Mohammed Shehu made this known while addressing newsmen at the police headquarters in Gusau town the state capital on Friday.

A police officer has been killed as bandits kidnapped a Zamfara Emir and several others along the Kaduna- Abuja highway.

The traditional ruler, who was identified as the Emir of Bungudu in Zamfara State, His Royal Highness (HRH) Alhaji Hassan Atto, and other abductees were whisked away to an unknown destination.

In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammed Jalige, said the victims were  kidnapped on Tuesday at Dutse village along the Kaduna-Abuja road in Chikun Local Government Area.

He also disclosed that the injured are receiving treatment in the hospital.

According to Jalige, the commuters were intercepted by the bandits who shot berserkly before taking an unspecified number of persons.

However, he narrated that the officer was shot to death by the bandits when operatives of the command were dispatched to restore normalcy in the area.

During preliminary investigation of the scene, four vehicles were recovered.

Meanwhile, a reinforcement team has since been dispatched while coordinated effort is being carried out with a view to rescuing the victims unhurt.
