Jigawa Govt Allots Almost Half Of 2022 Budget To Education, Health

The Jigawa State Government has allotted 32% and 16% of its 2022 budget of N177.7bn to the education and health sectors.

Governor Badaru Abubakar confirmed this on Wednesday while presenting the 2022 appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly in Dutse.

“It would be important to point out that almost N85.88 billion goes to the two key Human Development Sectors of Education and Health Sectors thus accounting for over 48% of the total proposed budget,” the governor said.

“The Education Sector as a whole is allocated almost N57.18 billion, representing about 32% of the total budget which exceeds UNESCO’s Education for All prescription of 26% allocation to Education.

“On the other hand, the Health Sector is earmarked N28.7bn equivalent to slightly over 16% of the total proposed budget. This also surpassed the 15% prescription of the Abuja Declaration.”

Governor Abubakar said the recurrent expenditure of N83.18bn which for the first time since his inception is lower than the capital expenditure of N91bn, accounting for 49% and 51% respectively.

“Honorable Speaker, let me now provide the highlights of the proposed expenditure estimates which, as mentioned, amounted to exactly N177,795,588,000.

“On the whole, recurrent expenditure to capital investments ratio stands at 49:51 percent respectively.

“That is N86,653,588,000 for recurrent expenditure and N91,142,000,000 for capital investments. It is noteworthy that almost 2% of the total expected incomes amounting to N3.54 billion were set aside for stabilization and contingency funds,” the governor added.
