Two persons – a mother and her child – have lost their lives in a tanker accident at Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Sunday.

An eyewitness told Channels Television that the incident occurred when a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) fell and spilled its content, while hoodlums scooped from the fallen tanker.

Meanwhile, security operatives and men of the fire service have brought the situation under control.

The State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, confirmed the incident, saying TRACE officials, Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and the firefighters were working assiduously to restore normalcy.

TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, urged the general public, particularly those domiciled or moving around the axis to remain calm and cooperative.

He also warned residents of the area to avoid scooping of fuel, use of handset and cooking gas so as not to spark off a fire.
