NWFL: We Can’t Afford To Slip, Coach Tasks Rivers Angels Ahead Of Robo Queens Match

Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon, is optimistic that his side will get a good result against FC Robo Queens in a Matchday 2 encounter of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

Okon, whose side played a goalless draw with Delta Queens in the opening round of fixtures in Asaba, believes his girls are up to the task when the Jewel of Rivers host the Lagos-based side on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

“We traveled to Asaba with the intention of picking all maximum points but that didn’t happen as we were forced to a stalemate,” he said just as the arrival of players from the U-20 national team is expected to help the club make up for the lost ground.

“I’m expecting a tough fight from Robo Queens tomorrow [Wednesday] because they have a very young side but notwithstanding, victory will be ours.

“This season will be quite an interesting one because of the opportunity to qualify for the continental showpiece next year so one cannot afford to slip at all.

“I’m looking forward to a good game come tomorrow and hope the odds will favour us.”

‘Total Victory’

While they conceded that FC Robo Queens will give them a fight for their money, Rivers Angels forwards, Rose Ekong and Maryann Ezenagu maintain that their club will win the tie.

“FC Robo is a professional side and playing against them has always been a cracker so I expect them to put up a good fight,” Ekong said ahead of the clash at the UNIPORT Sports Complex.

“From previous meetings, we’ve always had a better advantage over them and this won’t change when we meet tomorrow.

“We also intend to correct our mistakes from our last game as head into tomorrow’s encounter.”

For Ezenagu, while the team needed a victory in their encounter with Delta Queens last week, going home with a point was not a bad outing for her the Jewel of Rivers because “that ground isn’t an easy one”

“Picking a point in Delta is not a bad one because it’s my former team and I know what it takes to pick a point there,” Ezenagu noted.

“As for tomorrow’s match, all we need is a total victory, we can’t afford to drop any point while playing at home.

“I’m only urging my teammates to put up a good fight against FC Robo Queens in the game tomorrow [Wednesday].”

The Matchday 2 clash is billed to kick-off by 4pm.
