The Super Eagles have arrived in Garoua, Cameroon, ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria, three-time continental champions, arrived in the Central African country on Wednesday evening.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) posted a video of the team’s arrival on its official Facebook page.

“The @ng_supereagles have arrived in Garoua, Cameroon,” the post added. “Please, let’s wish them well.”

The Nigerian team had camped in Abuja in the last couple of weeks as they prepared for the competition.

But the team will be missing a number of key players including forward, Victor Osimhen, who was ruled out of the tournament on health grounds.

The Napoli striker had earlier expressed his readiness to play for Nigeria despite recently undergoing surgery. But when he contracted COVID-19, it all but ended his AFCON quest.

“Lively forward Victor Osimhen’s positive test to the coronavirus pandemic a couple of days ago and injury to the versatile Abdullahi Shehu have constrained changes to Nigeria’s final 28-man list for the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations starting in Cameroon next weekend,” a statement from the NFF read.

Osimhen won’t be the only Nigerian player not heading to Cameroon. Former Manchester United man, Odion Ighalo, Watford star, Emmanuel Dennis, Leon Balogun, and Shehu Abdullahi were also ruled out of the competition.
