The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the recent killings in Zamfara, describing them as “satanic”.

APC said this in a statement issued by the party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee National Secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) is deeply pained and condemns the recent killings of innocent Nigerians in their villages in Zamfara state by criminal gangs also known as bandits,” the statement added.

“Indeed, the recent designation of these satanic, evil and criminal elements as terrorist groups will further buoy our security services to deal with them as such and ultimately contain their nefarious activities in the country.”

The party also commiserated with the families of those killed during the attacks, and the Zamfara State government, saying the killers will not go unpunished.

It also commended the security agencies for their fight against insurgency and reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to ensuring peace in the country.

“Already, the terrorists (formerly bandits) are now fleeing as troops clearance operations have forced their dislodgement from their enclaves,” the APC spokesman’s statement said.

“We urge Nigerians to watch out and report any suspicious movement.”

Buhari had earlier condemned the attacks, describing them as “acts of desperation”.

“The latest attacks on innocent people by escaping bandits in Zamfara is an act of desperation by mass murderers, who are now under relentless pressure from our military forces who are well equipped to effectively confront these enemies of humanity,” Buhari said.

Channels Television had on Saturday confirmed that scores were killed in bandit attacks on Anka and Bukkuyum local government areas of the northwest state.

At least four villages were also razed in the attacks which started on Wednesday and lasted for about 48 hours.

Local vigilantes, who tried to repel the attacks, were among those killed.
