A coalition of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support groups say they are determined to ensure that the former Lagos State Governor emerges the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election.
The coalition disclosed this at a meeting in Abuja on Monday.
In attendance at that meeting were some top APC leaders including the former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, Former SGF, Bashir Lawal, and others.
While declaring their preference for direct primaries, the group stated that their main objective includes ensuring that Tinubu becomes the APC candidate, irrespective of the methods of choosing a flag bearer.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Bashir said the APC has not been able to achieve the objectives of its founding fathers.
According to him, the ruling party has not been able to operate as a party, across the 36 states, making it difficult for the APC to deliver on its promises.
The former SGF was of the opinion that Senator Tinubu has the capacity, and requisite qualifications to take over from President Buhari.
In the same vein, the former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, threw his weight behind Tinubu, citing his ability to manage resources, his loyalty to the APC, and President Buhari’s government as some of the reasons for supporting his ambitions.
According to Shettima, what to look out for in Nigeria’s next president should not be age, but the competence and pedigree of such candidate, which he says qualifies Senator Ahmed Tinubu in all ramifications.
He also stressed that the person who should be voted as president in 2023 must-have, excellent economic management capabilities, must be a leader who understands the complexity of the country, and must have the compassion and courage to forgive and to take decisions.
On his part, the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups Management Council (SGMC), Abdulmumuni Jubril, called on leaders of the various support groups to continue aggressive grassroots mobilization for Senator Tinubu, as they go back to their constituencies.
According to him, Nigerians must not leave things to chance in 2023. He added that Nigeria currently needs someone like Tinubu who has the qualifications, and capacity to win the coming election.
