“It’s Overdue For An Igbo Man To Become President” – Weekly Quotes

Nigeria’s political sphere is ever alive with rhetoric and interplays, and the sector has since the onset of 2022 been fully charged, all thanks to the fact that this is a year preceding the general elections.

Economic dynamics and the security situation across the country have left questions at the tip of many Nigerians’ tongues. Some believe the answers they seek cannot be proffered by the present administration and as such, they have set their minds on the future and are looking for a reprieve from an incoming government.

Fascinations about the 2023 general elections continue to dominate interactions week after week, and here below are some quotes that give us an insight into what went down in the passing week, as well as a sneak-peek into possibilities for the coming days.

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians to be fair in their assessment of his government and what it has achieved from 2015 to date.

The lawmaker representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Senator Bala Na’Allah is of the opinion that the National Assembly’s process of earlier deciding on Direct Primaries, was not painstaking enough.


“We will also continue to encourage collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Justice, their state counterparts, and law enforcement, to ensure that those who have been apprehended for terrorism and violent crimes are effectively prosecuted.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), says even though “the soul of the North, and of Nigeria by extension, is being contested by some of the most destructive and evil forces in contemporary history,” the Buhari Administration is firmly resolved to resist and defeat them.


“Distinguished Colleagues, funding of the 2022 Budget is predicated on significant borrowing. Our country is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.”

Chief Whip of the Senate and a former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, declares ahead of the 2023 general elections that though he is ready for the campaigns and capable of leading the country, he is not desperate to become president.


“Now that the National Assembly has done the right thing, he (Buhari) should waste no time at assenting to the bill and let the process have enough time to adjust.”

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to swiftly sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has revealed that he will declare his intention to run for the presidency in the forthcoming 2023 election once the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its national convention.

It is rather shameful that APC leaders are again ridiculing President Muhammadu Buhari by making him unveil pyramids of allegedly imported foreign rice which are re-bagged as locally produced, just to create an impression of a boost in local production under his watch.”
