23 terrorists have been killed and 37 people arrested during Operation Sahara Storm in Sokoto state.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ahmed Zaki stated this on Monday while briefing journalists in the state.

He said the suspects were arrested with 22 AK47 rifles, two rocket launchers, over one thousand rounds of life ammunition, and sophisticated weapons.

He noted that the operation took Place at Illela, Goronyo and Rabba Local Government Areas of Sokoto where bandits and other criminals had made life unbearable to residents in the areas.

According to him, over 150 cows were also recovered and more than 40 cartoons of hard drugs including pentabeta 30 were also recovered as well as assorted charms and solar battery chargers with other equipment aiding the operations of the suspected criminals.

The DIG said the operation was ordered by the Inspector General of Police to fight the rising criminal activities in the northwest geopolitical region.

One of the suspects arrested, Musa Kamarawa told journalists that he has been working with bandits in the last four years.

He says he collected the sum of N28m from notorious bandits to purchase a gun truck from neighbouring Benin Republic.
