The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, has charged the commanding officers of the Nigerian Army to think out of the box in coming up with well-thought-out strategies in dealing with contemporary security challenges in a joint environment across the country.
He made the charge during the opening ceremony of the first commanding officers’ workshop on Monday at Headquarters 82 Division Enugu.
The COAS, who was represented by the Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Engineers, Maj Gen Kamilu Kadiri, urged the participants to pay deep attention to the lectures and actively participate in discussions so that they would achieve a positive change of attitude to training and conduct of operations across theatres.
Lt Gen Yahaya added that to achieve the desired end state, which is a defeat of the adversary, there is the need to enhance the capacity of officers and soldiers through continuous training. He lamented that the inadequate training of personnel in a joint environment is the major problem affecting successful military operations in the country.
The COAS pledged that the Nigerian Army would at all times remain resilient and committed to defending the integrity of Nigeria through an uncompromising training program. He commended the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, his officers, and soldiers for putting good preparations to ensure a successful workshop.
The 5-day workshop attracted participants from South East, South West, and South-South as well as representatives of security agencies. It is aimed at equipping the participants with the requisite command and leadership skills to function optimally. The theme of the workshop is “Enhancing the Capacity of Commanding Officers for Effective Operations in a joint Environment”.
