The global broker OctaFX and KIR Foundation join efforts to provide fifty unemployed young people with ICT training and set up eight reading corners in another round of last year’s initiative.
This Ramadan, OctaFX and the Keeping It Real (KIR) Foundation have once again partnered to advance the cause of education in Nigeria. This year, the parties decided to launch two educational projects in several Nigerian states.
The first project deals with setting up eight reading corners, each consisting of 150 books and a bookshelf, in the following states: Katsina, Kebbi, Osun, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Edo, Lagos, and Rivers.
“We are glad to continue our collaboration with OctaFX in setting up reading corners all across Nigeria. It is often the case that children are eager to learn and read books that will help them acquire various skills, but they do not have the opportunity to buy books or access them in any other way. That is why we have already donated more than 20,000 books to orphanages, care homes, public schools, and other places as well as set up dozens of reading corners,” said the KIR Foundation representative.
As part of the second project sponsored by OctaFX, KIR Foundation will train fifty unemployed or underemployed young people, aged eighteen to thirty-five, who didn’t finish school. The training will provide them with market-relevant skills needed to find jobs in the ICT and related sectors.
All trainees will go through basic courses that include entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and soft skills training. Apart from that, they will be able to choose from the following additional courses: web development, cybersecurity, graphic design, photography/cinematography, data analytics, animation, and database administration. KIR Foundation in partnership with various stakeholders will then provide best-performing trainees with access to internships, job placement, and opportunities to access funding for start-up enterprises/self-employment.
“We started the Youth Employability Skills (YES) Project back in 2013 because of the research by World Bank we found showing that young people who have digital, soft, and entrepreneurial skills stand a better chance of getting a job. After some time, we reviewed our training model in 2018 and made it disability-inclusive,” the representative of the KIR Foundation explained.
