Katsina New Media Chapel Elects Interim Executive Committee

The Katsina New Correspondents’ Chapel of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has elected a new interim Executive Committee for the union.

At the conclusion of the election on Wednesday, Hajiya Rukayyah Aliyu Jibia of Tambari Television emerged as Chairman with Alhaji Agaju Madugba of The Sun newspapers as Vice Chairman.

The new Secretary of the Chapel is Mr. Dunamis Ogalah Ibrahim of Vanguard newspapers while Abdurrahman Umar of Channels Television emerged as Treasurer among other positions.

In her post-election acceptance speech, Hajiya Rukayyah Aliyu Jibia said she was humbled by the decision of the Chapel to elect her to the exalted position.

She further described leadership as a burden that should be handled through a collective approach by all members of the union adding that “I am optimistic that together we will succeed in moving the Chapel to greater heights.

“As in electoral processes all over the world, we are aware that some people may feel aggrieved for various reasons but I assure you that we have already initiated moves to address such issues where they exist.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Returning Officer of the election and Katsina Channels Television Correspondent, Abdurrahman Umar, while announcing the result on the Chapel’s WhatsApp platform, explained that five (5) out of fourteen (14) members voted for Alhaji Agaju Madugba of The Sun Newspaper as Interim Secretary of the chapel whereas nine (9) out of 14 members voted Mr. Dunamis Ogala Ibrahim of Vanguard Newspaper as the interim Secretary of the Chapel.

This, he said, shows that Mr. Agaju Madugba is now declared the Interim Vice Chairman and Mr. Dunamis Ogala Ibrahim is now declared the Interim Secretary of the chapel having satisfied all the requirements of the law as stipulated in the constitution.

During the election that lasted for one hour and 52 minutes, correspondents from various media organisations, mostly print and broadcast, took part in the exercise.

Their medium include; Liberty Television, Tambarin Hausa TV, Channels Television, Farinwata Television, Trust Television, Jakadiya RTV, Premium Times, The Sun, Punch, Pilot Newspaper, Champion Newspaper as well as Katsina post.

For the new interim Vice Chairman, Alhaji Agaju Madugba, the election is perhaps the most credible electronic electoral process in this part of the world. He asked President Muhammadu Buhari, the electoral umpire, and the two major political parties, to meet in the chapel for consultation ahead of the 2023 polls.

Meanwhile, the new interim secretary of the chapel, Mr Dunamis Ogala Ibrahim, thanked chapel members for giving him the opportunity to serve as the secretary of the great chapel and assured and assured that he will not disappoint them.

“To my amiable Chairperson and Vice Chairman, I am confident that with you two at the helms of affairs, a new dawn that we will all cherish is being birthed for Journalists in Katsina State.

“I assure you of my utmost cooperation and loyalty. Looking forward to a fulfilling working experience with you all. Thanks for the opportunity once again and God bless you all,” he added.

Channels Television observed that voting commenced on Tuesday at about 2:23 pm and ended at 4:15 pm with 14 out of 17 members participating in the exercise.
