68-Year-Old Suspected Cultist, Others Arrested In Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 68-year-old man and five others for suspected cult-related activities in Edo state.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Iwegbu, who confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, identified the suspects as Andrew Owhoyavwosa, Joseph Meshak, Osazee Solomon, Godswill Obasohan, Charles Odiase, Okoh Peter.

The suspects were apprehended by police operatives on July 2 in Ekiadolor, within the Ekowe community.

On sighting police operatives, Iwegbu said the suspects took to their heels from the scene of their unlawful assembly. They were however chased and taken into custody.

A sexagenarian, Okoh Peter, was arrested alongside five others with Items that include two locally made single barrel guns, one locally cut to size single barrel gun, and 30 live cartridges.

Others were a first aid box, kola nuts, eggs, cowries, one dead chicken, seven handsets and N30,000.

The police spokesperson stated that the arrest is to check the menace and excesses of cultism in Edo State and unnecessary killings in the state.

Cultism is becoming rampant in Edo State in recent times with security agencies working hard to curb the menace for the overall good of the people of the state.

Just last Friday, police operatives arrested and presented seven cult members, allegedly members of the Eiye and Aiye groups.
