Operatives of the Department of State Services in the early hours of Thursday raided the Desert Herald Newspaper office and residence of the embattled lead negotiator for the release of the train attack hostages , Tukur Mamu, in Kaduna State.

The office which is located at the Ungwan Rimi area in the Kaduna state capital and the residence located at Ungwan Dosa also in the city centre were raided by over 50 secret police at about 3am on Thursday.

A staff of the company, who did not want his name to be mentioned, told Channels Television that the heavily armed DSS personnel stormed the two locations in over twenty patrol vehicles, and ransacked the nook and cranny of the buildings and carted away laptops, phones and documents.

The source however, said that nothing incriminating was found in both the residence as well as the office.

Mamu, the spokesman for Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, was arrested by DSS on Wednesday at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport over issues bothering on security especially as it relates to banditry and terrorism.

He was first arrested on Tuesday by Interpol at the Cairo International Airport while trying to connect a flight to Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj, along with his two wives and sons.
