At least nine victims of human trafficking have been rescued by the police in Katsina State.

The victims, all females, were rescued on September 29, 2022, based on credible intelligence received by the Katsina State Police Command at about 1600hrs.

In a statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, he said officers had in response, raided a criminal hideout in the Daura Local Government Area of the state.

He added that in the course of the investigation, the victims stated that they were conveyed from Kano State to Daura by a driver, who on sighting the police team, abandoned the victims and took to his heels.

As the investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing suspect, the victims further stated that they were in transit to Libya through the Niger Republic border.

The victims are Timilaye Ojo ‘F’ aged 26 years of Lagos State; Blessing Joseph ‘f’ aged 19 years of Edo State; Khadija Abdullahi ‘f’ aged 29 years of Ondo State; Safiyyat Ahmed ‘f’ aged 21 years of Lagos State and Precious Nuhu ‘f’ aged 22 years of Kaduna State.

Others are Bolanle Adewusi ‘f’ aged 32 years of Ogun State; Okpoekwu Eunice ‘f’ aged 28 years of Enugu State; Kabirat Azeez ‘f’ aged 19 years of Ondo State and Taiwo Adeolo ‘f’ aged 27 years of Ondo State.
