Katsina Donates 50 Hectares Of Land For Upgrade Of Daura General Hospital To FMC

The Katsina State Government has donated 50 Hectares of land to the Federal Ministry of Health for the conversion of the Daura General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre.

The Katsina State Government has donated 50 Hectares of land to the Federal Ministry of Health for the conversion of the Daura General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre.

The Secretary to the State Government, Muntari Lawal, disclosed this on Thursday when he received members of a committee on facility assessment for the conversion of General Hospital, Daura to a Federal Medical Centre from the Federal Ministry of Health, on a courtesy call in his office.

Lawal directed the State Ministry of Health to liaise with the Ministry of Lands and Surveys to immediately start the demarcation of the land in Daura as well as the process of issuing of Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal Ministry of Health.

He restated the government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth and successful upgrading of the General Hospital to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.

According to Alhaji Lawal, Governor Aminu Masari-led’s administration has attached priority to some key sectors of which health is one of them because of the direct services it renders to the people, especially at the grassroots.

According to a statement issued by the Director Press, Office of the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua on Friday, Alhaji Lawal welcomed the assessment team on behalf of the state governor, government, and the good people of the state and wished them a happy stay and success of its assignment.

Earlier in his address, the team leader, Alhaji Hassan Sallau, who is also the Director of Human Resource Management of the Federal Ministry of Health announced that they were in Katsina for the facility assessment at the General Hospital Daura, which has always been the first stage of conversion of any General Hospital to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.

He explained that the assessment was in three areas which include infrastructure, equipment, and human resources.

He revealed that while at the Daura Hospital, the team discovered that the premises cannot accommodate the needed structures that would be erected to make the facility a full-fledged Medical Centre.

Alhaji Sallau however said, they were pleased on visiting the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, who directed the state commissioner of health to lead them to inspect a virgin 50 hectares land which was found to be very suitable for the project.

He stated that the Federal Ministry of Health was ready to embark on the
the project as soon as the required process of handing and taking over of the land was completed, adding that, the Ministry would start using the existing structures at the Daura General Hospital to commence the provision of services of the Medical Centre in Daura.

Channels Television learnt that the Federal Government had approved the conversion of General Hospital Daura to Medical Centre following the conversion of Katsina Medical Centre to a Teaching Hospital.
