The Nigeria Institute of Stockbrokers has invested former President Ibrahim Babangida as an honorary fellow of the institute as part of its 30 years anniversary celebration as a chartered institute.

The investiture which took place at his hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State on Monday, was conducted by members of the governing council of the institute.

They said IBB’s vision to charter the institute in its early days of formation strengthened its ability to contribute to the Nigerian stock market.

The former president while commending the leadership of the institute for upholding integrity in the conduct of their affairs affirmed that successful countries are built by strong institutions and that was his inspiration to grant the institute a charter in 1992. His faith in Nigeria coupled with the resilience of its people has further strengthened the desire.

President and chairman of the Council, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers Oluwole Adeosun said the capital market at the time was an emerging concept in the Nigerian financial space which is dominated by the money market banking system.

They said Babangida’s vision to charter the institute in its early days of formation strengthened its ability to contribute to its ability to guide the steer the operations of the Nigerian stock market.

The institute was established in 1990 and chartered in 1992. After 30 years of operations, the institute has over 3,000 members, and the former president is the 6th investee.
