Gov Bello Declares Curfew In Niger Community After Village Head’s Killing

 

Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello has declared a curfew in Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, following violent clash that led to the killing of the village head of Lambata, Mohammed Abdulsafur.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, said this in a statement by the Information Officer of the SSG’s Office, Lawal Tanko.

Matane added that the governor directed that the curfew be imposed on Lambata Town from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am beginning from Sunday January 15th, 2023 till further notice.

The SSG disclosed that the restriction was to assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation in the area, save lives, and enable the restoration of law and order.

According to him, “Government has condemned in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that have occurred in Lambata Town.”

The state government called on the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agents in the urgent task of restoring peace in Lambata, while urging security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew, the statement added.
