The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 elections Adewole Adebayo has cautioned against calls for the installment of an interim national government.
His call came on the heels of an alarm by the Department of State Services (DSS) about a plot to scuttle the democratic process. The agency’s spokesman Peter Afunanya in a Wednesday statement, however, assured that the secret police are prepared to counter such a move.

Hours after the revelation, the SDP candidate warned against such a plan which he described as a “high crime” like terrorism. While he acknowledged that protests over grievances were lawful, he cautioned against any move for an interim national government.
Peaceful protest over elections is legitimate, even if unpleasant. What Nigerians, especially youths must avoid is treason in promoting any so-called "interim government", a high crime, on the same scale as joining Boko Haram or ISWAP or any terror group. All gains will be lost.
