Senate Faults NNPC Over N102bn Crude Oil Deliveries

The Senate on Wednesday faulted the National Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited for poor record keeping of the uplifting of crude oil worth N102.6 billion to the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

The Senate’s response was based on the 2016 Auditor General report submitted and presented by Senator Mathew Uhroghide, which was endorsed by the Senate during the plenary session.

The Senate adopted recommendations of the 2016 Auditor General’s Report which queried 37 Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for several financial infractions.

A total of 92 MDAs were issued queries with 80 of the appearing before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts. Following the appearances at the Senate, 43 MDAs queries were vacated while 37 queries were sustained.

Some of the financial infractions observed by the Committee in the report include irregular remittance of internally generated revenues by revenue-generating agencies, high incidences of non-remittance deducted taxes to government coffers by MDAs, diversion of government property to private use and award of contracts to incompetent contractors.

Apart from the NNPC, some other key agencies indicted are the National Population Commission (NPC) for non-maintenance of public record and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for overspending N12.9 million capital expenditure.

For a year and six months, the Senate public accounts committee has been inviting heads of federal government ministries, departments and agencies to answer queries of financial infractions contained in the Auditor General’s 2016 report.
