Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, he insisted that Nigerians did not vote for LP’s Peter Obi as an individual.

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, says his family conspired against him to vote the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25 poll.

The APC chieftain said he underestimated the Labour Party in the recently concluded presidential election.

According to him, the Labour Party gathered as many votes as it did because Nigerians voted against the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket and some perceived dissatisfaction with the state of the nation under the party.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, the APC governor insisted that Nigerians did not vote for LP’s Peter Obi as an individual.

The governor said, “I didn’t give any chance to Labour Party to win any election in my state because what we have put on ground is such that no any other political party should be able to win anything not even councillorship election in Ebonyi State.

“I see the election or the votes of Labour Party as a kind of protest vote, against my party (APC), against the PDP. That’s the way I see it. So, I was very surprised that even in my family, there was conspiracy against me that I didn’t know that they were going to vote for Labour in the presidential election but in other elections, it is APC because of what we’ve done.

“It’s very surprising that Mr President could lose his state at the presidential level and Asiwaju could lose Lagos State. The religious leaders in my state were totally for the Labour movement and that’s why I saw it as a kind of protest vote, it wasn’t a vote for his Excellency, Obi as such.”
