The internal crisis in the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) played out on Saturday when Governor Hyacinth Alia announced the immediate suspension of the Guma 1 State Constituency bye-election primary election to nominate the party candidate.
The announcement came four hours after the party structure in the state believed to be loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume conducted an election and announced Uche Terwase Peter as the party’s flag bearer.

Trouble started on Friday with the disqualification of the consensus candidate put forward by the Governor Alia camp of the party Maurice Orwough by the APC screening committee, leaving only Terwase Peter as the only aspirant for the primary.
The Guma Local Government Area Caretaker Committee Chairmen buttressed the governor’s claim of prevalent insecurity in the area and how the process was highjacked.
Contrary to these claims, the APC State Publicity Secretary, denied claims of insecurity and manipulation as he gave an account of what happened at the primary election ground.
